Ever since I could pick up a crayon, I’ve been drawing. In kindergarten, when the other kids were still drawing stick figures, I was drawing people with round bodies and fingers. From there I began to design characters and objects for the stories I created using my imagination. As I got older, my imagination grew with me as well as the collection of images I gathered from different experiences while traveling abroad and everyday life. Through my travels, which countries include Romania, France, Denmark, I’ve been able to incorporate ideas from their cultures and my surroundings into my art and design.
In high school I continued to develop my art skills through various design and drawing classes. In college, I pursued my love of art and design by majoring in Art and minoring in Architecture. With my general Art degree, I was able to explore different mediums in art. The classes I took ranged from drawing to photography to computer animation to ceramics. During this time in college, I also took classes in architecture and landscape architecture thus coming out with a minor in Architecture as well.
Since 2008, I have been painting and embroidering my canvases to explore texture and how light passes on the different surfaces. In 2013, I participated in my first professional art show, "Around the Square", and won the Popular Vote Award. Since then, I've been painting and embroidering all while looking forward to my next art show.
My process for my mixed media paintings:
The process of each piece starts with a photograph that I have taken of a place I've been or of a beautiful part of nature. From the photo, I paint it with acrylics and then embroider bits using embroidery floss, a needle, and soon to be sore fingers!
